Judo, known as "the gentle way", is a soft style of martial arts. It is a non-aggressive art, and values self-esteem and proper behavior above physical prowess. The techniques of Judo involve throwing and grappling, as opposed to the hard striking styles of karate or tae kwon do. Through these gentle techniques, Judo teaches a non-confrontational mentality for the students to use both on the mat and in the rest of their lives. The ultimate goal of Judo is the harmonious development and eventual perfection of the human character.
The Bushido Judo School is one of the largest operating judo schools in North Carolina. Founded in 1995 by 3rd Degree Black Belt Sensei Darian Stokes, the Bushido Judo School's continuing mission has been to make Judo publicly available to benefit the entire community through martial arts.
Classes offered at the Bushido Judo School include "Pee-Wee" through Adult Judo, Womens Self-Defense and Rape Prevention, and "Warriors of Peace" (a program designed to build self-confidence, as well as teach non-combative ways to handle many situations).
